Dipped In Velvet
A radio show turned cultural soundscape.
It began with a fascination; not just with jazz, but with its perplexities. The way a single phrase could be both spontaneous and deliberate, how every note carried emotion, and how silence could be just as meaningful as sound. I fell in love with jazz not as background music, but as an entire philosophy of creativity; improvisation, conversation, and mood.
That love became Dipped in Velvet, a weekly jazz radio show born out of collaboration with a local community station in Ventura, California. The idea was simple: create a space that feels like it’s dripping with atmosphere; cool, unhurried, and timeless. But what started as a small show quickly grew into something much larger. Community.
Over the past year, Dipped in Velvet has evolved into a creative world of its own. Every episode is curated like a story; weaving together eras, styles, and emotions to make jazz feel alive again. I design the playlists, voice the breaks, and produce the sonic flow, but I also build the brand around it; the visuals, tone, and vibe that make listeners feel like they’ve stepped into another era.
The show has built a loyal audience that tunes in weekly for the warmth, humor, and storytelling that runs through each set. What began as radio has now become a live jazz curation project; hosting small performances and events where the sound, mood, and people all blend into something cinematic.
For me, Dipped in Velvet represents everything I love about storytelling; pacing, tone, aesthetic, and emotion. It’s not just about playing music; it’s about designing how people experience it. It’s brand storytelling through sound; warm, honest, and human.
